6. Dream Journey

2015-2017
Project: Communal meditations, hypno-tape, private sessions

This project was what initiated my journey into ambient music. See the about section for more background on this.

I put out a “hypnosis tape” while I was briefly living in Berlin called Dinner’s Dream Journey. The hypnosis session was really a guided meditation. I somehow ended up in Die Welt (a large German paper), hypnotising one of their journalists. Oddly, this led me to participate in a RTL TV-show where I was supposed to hypnotise a German celebrity. But when she saw into my eyes she was startled and didn’t want to go though with it. I thought she was playing to the cameras, but she was sincere, and we had to stop shooting.

When I moved back to LA, Michelle Cable of Panache generously let me use an empty gallery space adjacent to her office in Highland Park. She had the idea I should make regular, communal Dream Journeys there. I did a handful of those, and then started doing them around LA. On a hillside in Malibu, a tent in Topanga Canyon, and one with Mac Demarco.

I also did a Dream Journey when I was opening for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard in Australia with my band Dinner. The venue was a small trailer of a sort outside the main stage that fit maybe 30 people. 1 person showed up.
